SFMOMA announced that filmmaker George Lucas will receive its annual lifetime achievement Bay Area Treasure Award.

Bio

Renny Pritikin was director of the Richard Nelson Gallery at UC Davis until 2012, after being chief curator at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts from 1992 until 2004. Prior to that he was director of New Langton Arts. Since 2009 he has written catalogue essays about Cornelia Schulz (for Patricia Sweetow Gallery); Out of Line: A Drawing Survey, Dave Lane, and Merch Art: The Banka/Gordon Collection, (for the Nelson); Julia Couzens (for the CSU Stanislaus gallery); John Bankston (Beta Pictoris Gallery, Birmingham AL); Tony May (for San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art); Trimpin (University of Washington/Marquand Press); Jim Melchert (Sanchez Gallery); Young-suk Suh (also CSU Stanislaus); Dean de Coker (Jay Jay Gallery, Sacramento); Chris Taggart (Center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento); and Joe Draegart (Sandra Erickson Fine Art, Healdsburg, CA). Recent and upcoming curatorial projects include That’s What I Figure, at City College of Sacramento, and External Combustion, at the di Rosa, Napa, CA. He has also published recent art writing in Huck, (London); Square Cylinder (Sacramento/on-line); and Taxi (Mexico City).
