Julianne Wallace Sterling: reposePost an Event »

Julianne Wallace Sterling: repose Julianne Sterling "repose" 2017, graphite on paper, 22" x 30" (Photo by artist)

Grieving the very recent loss of her father after a short 6 month cancer battle, Julianne Sterling has found it challenging to focus and to make artwork. During these difficult months, she decided to try some drawing. Working with the simplicity of graphite and a beautiful piece of paper were soothing to her. Influenced by Wallace Stegner’s novel, Angle of Repose, these drawings are Sterling’s attempt to find her own “angle of repose,” the maximum slope at which loose solid material will remain in place without sliding. Here’s to not sliding. JULIANNE WALLACE STERLING is a Bay Area painter born in Southern California. She graduated from UC Riverside with a BS in Economics and pursued post-baccalaureate studies in art at San Francisco State. Her work has been exhibited at Dacia Gallery in New York, A.I.R. Gallery in Brooklyn, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in Novato and Pro Arts Gallery in Oakland. She was awarded first prize at Marin Museum of Contemporary Art’s 2010 Juried Annual. Her work has been written about in the San Francisco Chronicle, art ltd. and the East Bay Express. Ms. Sterling’s work was selected for A.I.R. Gallery’s 9th Biennial in Brooklyn in March 2011.
