Collaboration with CCA

Art Practical is pleased to partner with the California College of the Art's Visual and Critical Studies Program (VCS).

Led by VCS Chair, Tirza Latimer and by publisher Patricia Maloney, the fall course, Public/ation, explores how contemporary art journals create and shape audiences for art. Throughout the course, students write and produce content for Art Practical, evaluating the ways in which the platform connects with its readers.

In Fall 2013, the participating student curated and produced the thematic issue, 5.2 / Readership, published on December 5, 2013. Special thanks to Marion Cousin, Erica Gomez, Felicia Hayes, Emily Holmes, Vanessa Kauffman, Dorothy Santos, and Anton Stuebner for their extraordinary level of commitment.

In Fall 2014, the participating students curated and produced the thematic issue, 6.2/There, We Said, and in This Place, published on October 30, 2014. This significant accomplishment was the work of Rachel Endosa, Sienna Freeman, Melissa Miller, Djinnaya Stroud, and Yi Shan Tan.

In Fall 2015, the participating students curated and produced the thematic issue, 7.3/An Unending Theft of Opportunity, published on December 17, 2015. Tanya Gayer, Elena Gross, Bryndis Hafthorsdottir, Mailee Hung, Veronica Jackson, and Eden Redmond greatly expanded the scope of the project in collaborating with multiple publications to produce its timely and thought-provoking content.
