Art + Feminism 2020 Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

Art Practical has joined with the CCA Libraries to welcome you to an event designed to improve the representation of cis and transgender women, non-binary folks, and feminist subjects in the world's largest online encyclopedia. Never edited Wikipedia before? No problem! We will have experienced editors and plenty of library resources to assist you in your writing.

Wikimedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity, however, is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

Let’s change that. Join us for a communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism. We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, and refreshments. Bring your laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate. The library has public computers available for all to use.

Sign up for a Wikipedia account one or two days before the event here!

As all of us monitor the evolving global situation with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), our priority is protecting the health and well-being of every member of our community. We have made the decision to move our edit-a-thon online. CCA staff attendees will be available to help you one-on-one over Zoom or email. The CCA Libraries will post details on how to participate virtually on the dashboard page here

Join us via Zoom on April 2 from 3 to 6 pm here!
