Event: Singing Target

By Matt Sussman, Brandon Brown March 31, 2016

"In all its manifestations karaoke culture unites narcissism, exhibitionism and the neurotic need for the individual to inscribe him or herself on the indifferent surface of the world,” writes Dubravka Ugresic in Karaoke Culture (Open Letter, 2011).

Seeing as “visual art” or “poetry” could just as easily be swapped in for “karaoke culture” in Ugresic’s withering dismissal, we thought it best for artists and poets to embrace their shared narcissistic, exhibitionist, and neurotic core and join together in song.

Singing Target is also a celebration of Moving Target, our guest-edited issue of Art Practical, an ongoing survey of the intersections between art and poetry in the Bay Area. Come on down and share a drink and sing a song because as Ariana Grande has said: "You don't have to have much to show how much you care."

When: Friday, April 15, 2016 // 6pm - 9pm
Where: White Horse Bar, 6551 Telegraph Ave, Oakland
